Brown Bat & Flying Squirrel Infestation Problems

Bats and flying squirrels have become highly adapted to man-made structures. People will seldom encounter these 2 animals other than experiencing an infestation. Bats will often be in larger groups called “maternity colonies.” These are groups of bats consisting of only females. These colonies invade structures seeking a place to raise their young, while flying squirrels have other motives. Flying squirrels are often found chasing and eating the mice contained in a homeowner’s attic, and they are also colonizing animals, found in groups consisting of several individuals. Let’s get that herd of flying squirrels or bats out of your home! We have a solid 26 years of experience here at Creature Removal.

We are licensed through Division Of Wildlife Authorities in Vermont and we carry the proper insurance that is needed for this line of work. Our company exclusively handles bats and flying squirrels due to the increasing need for a professional service. We have been in this line of work for 26 years now and offer our effective methods of wildlife removal that abide by all State and Federal regulations that govern nuisance wildlife. Humane Weston bat removal is our specialty.”

About Our Renewable Warranty For Bats

We even have a 2-year renewable warranty that restarts anytime you have a recurring problem. For example, if you had bats and hire us to do the exclusion work, we will put a warranty on that home for 2 years. Let’s say, hypothetically speaking, that another 1 & 1/2 years later you experience another problem. In that situation, we come back to remove the issue at no cost, and then the original 2-year warranty will be extended for an additional two years. We always honor our agreements, and it’s just another reason we’ve been in business for 26 years now offering our guaranteed services. Any re-infestation issue is rare for us, but rest assured we’ll be right on top of it when it happens.

Bat Species In Vermont & The WNS Disease

The most common species of bats in Vermont are Big Brown Bats. There used to be a high population of Little Browns in the area, and they’re still around, but most have died off due to a disease known as White Nose Syndrome (WNS.) Big Brown Bats will over-winter in a homeowner’s attic, while Little Browns will migrate to caves to join a gigantic colony. This is the very reason Little Brown Bats have died off from WNS and the other species did not, simply because they rapidly spread the fungal disease between each other during hibernation with the huge colony. Big Browns have maintained a healthy population due to living in smaller colonies, although they are still susceptible to White Nose Syndrome. It’s estimated between 8-9 million American bats have died from WNS since 2006.

This is the reason why humane methods of bat removal cannot be neglected. It’s illegal to kill bats, and we won’t stand for it at Creature Removal. We only do it the right way! Fortunately for the bats AND our clients, the “right way” is also the most effective way, using humane bat exclusion.

Methods Of Flying Squirrel Removal

Similar to bats, we install one-way devices over the main entry points the flying squirrels are using and then seal the house completely. This is the most effective way. If you trap flying squirrels and expect the problem to be resolved, you’ll be in for a real treat. These are colonizing animals and are attracted to each others scent. If you leave the home wide open you are just asking for more flying squirrel problems. Exclusion is by far the most effective method for both bats AND flying squirrels.

Interesting Facts About Flying Squirrels

There are two types of flying squirrels found in the Weston area; Northern Flying Squirrels & Southern Flying Squirrels. Differences between the two species include size and diet. The Southern Flyer weighs-in at 2-3 ounces, while the Northern species will weigh between 3-5 ounces. An interesting fact about Southern Flying Squirrels is they are highly carnivorous. They will feed on small birds and rodents. They have even been known to turn cannibalistic. Many times people with mouse issues in the attic will have the southern species invade because of the mice contained in the attic, which the squirrels will hunt & feed on… The Northern Flyers are omnivores. They generally eat nuts, tree sap, fungi, and insects, but do not feed on other rodents. Both species of Flying Squirrel do not have the ability to “fly”, but rather they “glide” using the flaps of fat found on their midsection.
