Milford, CT Bat Removal Specialists

Since we handle all kinds of critters on our day-to-day jobs, we can tell you without a doubt that bat infestations are a unique problem compared to the rest, and so they need to be handled in a unique way as well. All species of bats are listed as a federally protected species in the U.S., and so euthanizing them is completely out of the question. That is not an ethical solution.

We get rid of bats from homes and attics by performing a job called “live bat exclusion.” This process entails sealing the structure of “potential” entry points, hanging one-way devices (AKA bat cones) over the “known” entry points, and that will do the trick, if done correctly. Think it sounds easy? Well, this gives a new meaning to the phrase, “easier said than done!”

After The Bats Are Gone – Attic Restoration & Bat Guano Cleanup

Once the bats have been removed from the home, we come back to remove the one-way devices we installed and then we seal those areas shut permanently. During our inspection we would have also checked inside your attic for bat guano. Depending on the degree of infestation, your attic may need 1 of 2 things – “full attic restoration” or a “spot cleaning service.” Full restoration is recommended when there is excess amounts of bat guano accumulated in your attic. If the guano is merely in a few spots throughout the attic, we would recommend a spot clean. We’ll advise the best course of action upon inspection. We always show pics of the damage we discover so you can observe the evidence for yourself and make an educated decision on the services we offer.

Factors To Consider About Bat Removal

The amount of exclusion work that needs done is going to depend highly on the condition and build type of your specific home. Generally speaking, even a home that is in apparent great condition can still require a lot of work. This is often a point of debate when we are looking at a newly constructed home. See, your home can be new or old, it doesn’t matter to the bats. The people who built the home likely were not accounting for a possible bat infestation, and so there are still going to be exposed gaps along the roof-line and junctions… Bats can squeeze through a crack about the width of a pencil, so it’s important to be meticulous in sealing every little crack.

Bat Maternity Season & Why It Matters

The bat removal process will take roughly 1-2 days to complete, but it usually takes a little over a week for the bats to be completely eradicated, given the conditions are ideal. More factors that play into how long it will take is the time of year and bat maternity season. If the bat colony is hibernating or otherwise contains baby bats, the exclusion process will have to be postponed until these issues are no longer present. Bat maternity season will start late May and last until mid-August, which is the time period the colony is host to infant bats that are not able to fly. They are born late in May and will not be able to fly on their own until mid-August. If we perform the exclusion while they are not able to fly, the baby bats will die inside the home. Not only would that be a legal issue for us, but it would also cause a horrible dead animal smell that will not go away so easily. Call and talk to our techs about what we can do for you in those types of situations.

Top 5 Bat Problems In Connecticut

  1. Bats In The Attic – When bats invade an attic space, they are likely to build up large amounts of guano deposits scattered throughout the attic. NCS Wildlife can provide attic cleanup when bats make a mess.
  2. Bats In The Chimney – Bats are ubiquitous chimney invaders. Many people will get bats flying around in the house when bats are present inside their chimney. This is generally due to an open flu in the chimney.
  3. Bats In Vents – Vents can be highly attractive to bats because of the drafts protruding from the vents. People will often notice bats in vents when waste begins to accumulate somewhere below the vent area.
  4. Bats In The House – The hot summer seasons can drive bats to come down from an attic into living areas. Bats do this because the attic becomes too hot for them, so they go lower, seeking cooler temps.
  5. Bats In Church – One of the more common structures for bats to invade are churches. Many times churches have open steeples, welcoming many different creatures, including bats. NCS Wildlife can help.
